Despite what Bill Hay, who is on the campaign team for Lawrence "the Constitution is flexible" Verga writes, the grassroots of the GOP spoke loudly and clearly yesterday in Appomattox. They rejected the politics of the backroom deal and went instead for an open election.
Verga, who is spending almost as much of his time DC as in the district these days, has hired a high dollar image firm to get him on conservative talk shows so he can try and beat up on Robert Hurt. Verga, who just moved to the district and who has never helped in any way in a single GOP race until he decided to run, has decided that he can buy his way into Congress. It was the Laura show where Verga flubbed the Constitutions question that his PR firm had gotten him placement on.
Bill Hay has set up a debate under the name of the Jefferson Area TEA party. How proper is it for Hay to run such an event, especially since he has chosen Rob Schilling, whose PR firm has taken 20K from Verga as the moderator. What a bunch of garbage. Every other candidate should skip this debate. There is no way Hay and Schilling intend to be fair. What would Hay say if Ken Boyd had John Pudner organize a debate ?

"Their may be others that claim to know the 5th but our reporters are everywhere and watch everything!" That's a joke!
ReplyDeleteGet your facts straight. I did not set up this debate. It is being set up by the three tea parties in the 5th district one of which is the JATP. Mark Lloyd of the Lynchburg Tea Party is spear heading the events and Nigel Coleman of the Danville tea party is also involved. Because of my support of Verga my only responsibility was to find a location for the event in Charlottesville. That is the extent of my involvement besides sending out announcements. As for Rob Schilling being the moderator that is news to me. He was one of the persons being considered. No one to my knowledge has officially been asked.
Bill Hay
Bill,
ReplyDeleteYou are the one who made the announcement of the date time and place of the so called debate. You did set up the venue. Are you telling me that you have not talked to Rob and that Rob was not on Verga's payroll ? Are you serving as the head of the TEA party or a Verga advisor in this ? If you can't see the conflict, too bad, everyone else can.
Now, getting down to the truth, which your blog seldom does as it has become little but a Verga rag, why don't you ever answer questions about your candidate's flexible and elastic Constitution ? Is accepting that what the TEA party is all about ?
Notice I don't call the good people "Teabaggers" as you do. You are insulting all of the other really good people in the TEA Party movement in my opinion.
BTW- you have seldom been south of the James in the 5th District and to title your blog as being the 5th District shows how out of touch you are.
real5th,
ReplyDeleteWhatever axe you have to gring with the several campaigns is certainly your axe to grind. My name is Mark Lloyd, and I am presently the organizer of the Lynchburg TEA Party. You do need to get you facts straight before you make accusations. If you have any questions about the THREE VA5th District GOP Debates you should contact me. I am presently a member of the Campbell County Republican Unit, have been for years. I became sickened by the RINO's that have taken over the party from DC down to some of our local area. I took on the responsibility to organize the debates for several reasons I would be interested in sharing with you. When these debates were discussed with the VA5th TEA Parties Bill Hay mentioned his involvement with the Verga Campaign would be veiwed by some as a conflict of interest, and he felt it would be better if he were not viewed as the organizer of the Charlottesville debate. Due to time constraints I asked Bill to locate a venue, and he did just that. NO moderator has been selected at this time, and Mr. Schilling is in consideration, but I have not heard back from him.
FYI - I spoke to each candidate, including Mr. Hurt, and all of them agreed enthusiasticly to participate in these debates.
Also, you need to understand that MANY of the TEA Party members have been involved with the GOP for years, but due to the TOP DOWN dictates from RINO's in leadership they have become disgusted. Don't EVER accuse them of sitting on the sidelines. With that silly statement you show the ignorance of the GOP toward the conservatives in the TEA Party movement, those you take for granted and generally overlook all together. Most of them are members of the TEA Party movement because they don't see the GOP as an effective way to participate in the political process. Apparently you, and your ilk, fail to understand that the people are NOT looking for leaders who direct their every action, they are looking for REPRESENTATIVES who stand by their convictions and REPRESENT their constituents. The present day GOP has failed to do this.
Should you like to check your facts, please contact me at mklloydva@gmail.com
I hope to hear from you soon,
Mark Lloyd
Mark,
ReplyDeleteGood to see you here and congratulations on the good work that the Lynchburg TEA party has done.
That said, your use of the word RINO is a poor choice. What exactly is a RINO ? Is it someone who claims to be a Republican and claims to be willing to go out and support Republican candidates and then is seldom seen to do any of the real work at election time ? I know your definition is closer to a person who is too "moderate" in your mind to suit you but I think it should fit also for those who wear the name only when it suits them. They claim a higher responsibility than the one they swore to when they joined a unit or went to a convention.
Who is a RINO ? Look at some who go around calling others a RINO. How many days/nights did they volunteer to make phone calls from the call center this last election ? Did they work a shift at the polls ? Did they help put up the large and small signs all over ? Did they go out and knock doors ? I don't know but to advance a conservative agenda, we all need to pitch in and do those things. Or we all are RINO's. If they sit on the sidelines like some do,then they are just that and they need to be called that. Won't make them happy but will be the truth.
Don't just make blanket inditements about people being RINO's. There are four or five local units nearby. Which unit chair do you consider a RINO ? I don't know one who hasn't proven by word and deed that they are conservatives. Just because they didn't agree with you on a convention does not make them a RINO.
i know it may upset you but the grassroots leaders of the GOP, the people who do all the work above, and the county chairs who are elected every two years by the grassroots, work hard to advance a conservative agenda. When you, as a leader of the TEA parties, attack them you are just wrong. They probably agree with 95% of what you do and support you. Ronald Reagan taught us that those who agree with us 80% of the time are our friends not our enemies.
As far as Mr. Hay goes, you have to know that it just does not seem right for someone on the staff of a candidate to be running a debate. Was there no one else out of the over one thousand involved in the TEA party in Charlottesville who could have made the arrangements ? Clearly, you have communicated with Mr. Schilling. Can't you see the further question by anyone from the outside when he too has been a part of the Verga campaign ? How in the world would you think you should not be asked these questions ? I like Schilling and he runs a great show but appearances do mean a great deal. You guys just have not thought this through and now take offense when someone questions you.
